Overview
EdgeSage is built local-first. The steel database, comparator, Steel Wizard, and AR Coach all work fully offline and need no account. This policy explains what happens once you choose to create an account, sync across devices, submit to the community leaderboard, or use a Grok-powered feature.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address to authenticate you and sync your data.
- Knife & session data. The knives you add, the steels you assign them, and your sharpening session history. This is stored on your device first; it's only sent to our servers if you're signed in.
- Photos for steel identification. If you use the photo-ID feature, the image is sent to our server, which relays it to Grok for analysis and returns a result. We don't use these photos for any other purpose.
- Community leaderboard submissions. A steel and a performance rating. Public leaderboard entries are anonymous — they aren't linked to your account in anything visible to other users.
- Purchase information. Subscriptions and purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store. We never see your card details — Apple shares only the entitlement state (e.g., "Pro is active") with us.
- Diagnostics. Standard iOS crash and performance data, only if you've opted in via Apple's system prompts.
How we use it
- To run the comparator, Wizard, and AR Coach.
- To sync your knives and session history across your own devices, if you're signed in.
- To power the community Steel Leaderboard from aggregated, anonymized reports.
- To process purchases and manage your Pro entitlement through Apple.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
Third parties
We work with a small number of service providers, each scoped to a specific job:
- Supabase — hosts our database and authentication.
- xAI (Grok) — powers chat and photo-based steel identification, accessed only through our own server-side proxy. The underlying API key never ships inside the app.
- Apple — processes all App Store purchases and subscriptions.
We don't use an ad network, and we don't sell your data to anyone.
Your choices
- Use the entire steel database, comparator, Wizard, and AR Coach with no account at all.
- Delete an individual knife, or your whole account, from within the app at any time.
- Request deletion or ask any question by emailing [email protected].
Children's privacy
EdgeSage is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the date at the top of this page, and we'll call out material changes inside the app.
