Frequently asked questions

What is EdgeSage?

EdgeSage combines two tools in one app: Steel Sage, a searchable knife-steel database with a side-by-side comparator and a guided recommendation wizard, and the AR Coach, a real-time augmented-reality overlay that guides your bevel angle while you sharpen.

Do I need an account?

No. The steel database, comparator, Steel Wizard, and AR Coach all work with no account and no network. An account is only needed to sync your knives across devices and to submit reports to the community Steel Leaderboard.

Which sharpening systems does the AR Coach support?

Freehand stones, plus guided systems: Wicked Edge, KME, Lansky, and Work Sharp, along with strops. Pick your setup in the app and the coach's guidance adjusts to match.

How does the AR Coach know my angle?

It uses your phone's camera and motion sensors to track the stone plane and your blade in real time, overlaying your target angle and giving haptic and voice feedback as you work — no external hardware needed.

Is EdgeSage free?

The core app is free: the full steel database, a 2-steel comparator, the Wizard, the AR Coach on every method, 3 knives, and 10 Grok calls a day. Pro ($4.99/mo or $39.99/yr) adds a 3-steel comparator with export, unlimited knives, 50 Grok calls a day, and log exports.

Does it work offline?

The steel database, comparator, Wizard, and AR Coach all work fully offline. Account sync, community leaderboard submissions, and Grok-powered chat or photo-ID need a network connection.

Where is my data stored?

Your knives and sharpening history are stored locally on your device first. If you sign in, that data also syncs to our servers so it's available across your devices. See the Privacy Policy for details.

When is EdgeSage available, and on which platforms?

EdgeSage is currently in development for iOS — that's the platform we're shipping first. Android is planned as a fast-follow after that. This page and the app's home page will update with the App Store link the moment it's live.

How do refunds work?

Purchases are handled by the App Store. Refund requests are managed by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We're glad to help with anything else by email.
